Darrell Lane Colbert, age 66, answered God's call on October 26, 2019 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 19, 1953 to Vernia and the late L.V. Colbert in Knoxville, TN.
Darrell was the eldest of five children and took that responsibility seriously. He always referred to himself as “Big Brother”, however, he was more than just a big brother; he was a friend, provider and protector. His siblings, niece and nephews had the highest respect for him.
He attended Knoxville City Schools and graduated from Holston High School class of 1971. He retired from Cemex after 35 years of employment.
Darrell had a spirited personality and always made people around him laugh. He was a dedicated father first and foremost. He treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. He enjoyed baking, singing and listening to music. He was deemed “Barry White” by his pride and joy, DeJohn.
He was a father-figure to many including Markeita Boyd and Xavier Williams.
Darrell is survived by his sons, DeJohn Colbert and Jaton Johnson; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; mother Vernia Colbert; sisters, Sharon Stewart, Sybil Sligh and Mary (Steven) Tate; brothers, Anthony (Jackie) Colbert and Lavernon Robinson; nephews, Shannon (Michelle) Sligh, Ronald (Rhonda) Stewart, L'Amour Sligh, Kipling and Michael Colbert; niece, Krishna (Brian) Crawford; a multitude of family members and friends to include mother of his son and friend, Leslie Williams.
