Edgar L. Bayless, age 87 passed away October 12, 2018. He was born March 3, 1931 in Charleston, Tennessee to the late Esther and Robert Bayless.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bayless; his parents; his son, Edgar Bayless, Jr.; siblings: Ted Bayless, Thomas Joe (Inez) Bayless, Louise (Benjamin) Parris, Trula (John) Arnold, Fred (Mable) Bayless, Joyce (Calvin) Ramsey, Lenard Bayless; stepdaughter, Harle Blair; step-son, Lionel Langford; nephews: Larry Ramsey, Keith Ramsey and Owen Ware, Jr.; God-brother, Benjamin (Mary) Wood; and sister-in-law Patsy (Leonard) Woods.
Edgar confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined Green’s Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of College Hill High School Class of 1950. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he fought in Korean War.
After marrying Nancy, he then joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until his health began to decline.
Edgar was employed with Commercial Building Services and retired from Rubbermaid. After his retirement, he was employed with Patton Funeral Home for many years. Edgar enjoyed working in his garden and caring for his plants. He took great pride in his elephant ear plants and rose bushes. He had a distinguished voice and loved singing “Amazing Grace”. When things didn’t go his way or people didn’t do what he wanted them to do, he would quickly call on the Lord, saying: “Lord, tell them what to do”!
He leaves to cherish his memories, his stepchildren: Shelby (Crystal) Love, Stephanie Drake, Lavoris Coure, Shellry (Eugene) Smith, Shelton (Sharon) Langford, Sheba (Shawnie) Anderson, Ursula Langford, Howard (Nicole) Langford; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Manona Garrett of Ashland City; God-brother, Claiborne (Sophia) Phillips; nieces: Rita McDermott, Cheryl Ramsey, Carolyn Ramsey and Thomasine Bayless; sisters-in-law: Dale Donohoo, Ruth Ware, Theresa (Alphonso) Baltimore; brothers-in-law: Milo (Candice) Ware, Owen (Angela) Ware; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Body may be viewed at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 20, from 9:00a.m. until 7:00p.m. Family will receive friends Sunday, October 21 from 2:00p.m. until service time at 3:00p.m., Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3406 Blair Road N.W., Reverend Freeman Ray presides, Reverend Alfred Johnson Sr. Interment will be Monday, October 22 Chattanooga National
