Eliza Robinson Obituary


Sister Eliza Mae Shugars Robinson was born February 27, 1927 to the union of the late Coleman and Gussie Garner Shugars in Booneville, Mississippi. She was granted eternal rest on November 8, 2018 at the NHC Nursing Facility.


She was a proud 1949 graduate of the Baldwyn Colored High School of Baldwyn, Mississippi.


As a young girl, she joined the Oakhill Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating to Oak Ridge in 1951, she became a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. C. C. Fuller. She served on the Senior Usher Board and as a member of the C. C. Fuller Circle. She served this community as a member of the Guiding Light Circle, the Atomic Chapter #13 Order of Eastern Stars, and the Roberta Bohanon Temple #1381.


She was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Lee Robinson on September 3, 1959

Sister Robinson worked as a domestic and enjoyed taking care of the families of many judges and lawyers in the Oak Ridge area. She was a retiree (taxi driver) of the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (K-25).


In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to gospel music, “elephant” collectibles, playing bingo, watching ball games and wrestling, and spending time with her family. She also cherished her “Angel Doll”, Kaci Mitchell. She also enjoyed dressing the ministers and their wives as well as herself.


Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Robinson; daughter, Robbie “Pat” McClain, sisters: Louvenia Shumpert, Pauline Keeton, and Gennette Hans; brothers: Coleman Shugars, Jr, Charlie D. Shugars, and Daniel C. Shugars; grandsons: Rufus Shepard, III and Marcus Harvey.

Sister Robinson leaves to mourn her passing her children: Rev. Raymond Shugars (Nanne Lou), Georgia Shepard, Robert Robinson, Tommy Robinson, Charlotte Robinson, Machel Avery, and Nikita Robinson; adopted daughter, Camella Robinson-Mitchell; grandchildren: Ann Shugars, Bobby Shugars, Kissa Shugars, Sherlene Shugars, Linda Shepard, Annette Shepard, Renee Robinson, Erica Shepard, Roderick Robinson,Tempest Hall, Aurelius Robinson, Wendy Nicole Robinson and Candace Robinson-Batts; special daughter, Lisa Page; special son, Anthony Gibson; devoted cousins: Mother Lorrine Rowland and family and the Stewart Family; special close friends whom she cherished: Willie Mae Springs, Dorothye Patterson, and Dionne Kirk; special friends: Linda Kanipes, Annette Hammonds, Deborah and Rico Booker, Alice Pointer, and Rufus Shepard, Jr.; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Saturday, November 17, 2018, the familywill receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Homegoing service to follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 195 Wilberforce Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN.  Dr. Hardil Thomas presiding and Reverend Raymond Shugars will be the eulogist.  Interment will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
