Elmira Davenport Obituary


Ms. Elmira Davenport, age 77, a resident of Oak Ridge, TN for 52 years entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born February 23,1942 in Hogansville, GA to the late Estella and Roy Porter, Sr. She attended Spurgeon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Oak Ridge, where the Rev. Churchill W. Moore, Sr. is the pastor, until her health begin to fail. Ms. Davenport was a dedicated employee at K-25 and Y-12 for many years. Her hobbies over the years included spending time with friends and family, gardening, taking care of her flowers, and other outside activities. 


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Roy Porter, Jr., Eugene Porter, Alvin Porter and Garfield Porter; sister: Carrie Ruggs; brothers-in-law: Roosevelt Ruggs, Eddie Hardaway; sisters-in-law: Bethina Porter and Beatrice Porter and close friend, Eloise Kirk. 
She leaves to cherish her memory: loving son, Henri (Tina)Porter; brothers: Calvin (Mary) Porter, Virginia, Leon (Lola) Porter, Georgia, and Donald Porter; sister, Jessie Mae Hardaway, Oak Ridge; grandchildren: Tre Smith, Rashad Porter, Darius Anderson, Sheneqqua Johnson, Unyae (Josiah) Lee, Andrianna Porter, Shaquille Dews, and Tyree and Ta’Miyah Porter; greatgrandchildren: Kyree Anderson, La’Miere Porter, Armoni Booker, La’Rius Porter, Aiden Dews, Ja’Shalin Porter, Ka’Lyah Smith, Westen Dews, and Lehlani Rodriguez; close friends: Gladys Johnson, Georgia Reed and Sue Gipson; a host of nephews, nieces and friends too numerous to include.

Saturday, June 22, 2019, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Spurgeon Chapel AME Zion Church, 100 Houston Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN.  Reverend Churchill W. Moore, Sr. officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
