Gregory Gillis, age 57, departed this life on August 23. 2018 at Fort Sanders Regional. He was most recently employed as a Carpet Installer. Greg was an avid sports fan. He loved going to football games with his son Lil’ Greg and his brothers. Fishing was another hobby he enjoyed with his nephew Mike and his brothers too. Greg had a great sense of humor and didn’t mind sliding a joke in (with a touch of realism) at any given time.
Preceded in death by his father, Charles Gillis, Jr.; sister, Sandra Gillis; son-in-law, Jermichael Bowman and mother of two sons, Phyllis Saffell.
Survived by: wife, Ruby Samuel-Gillis; children: Gregory D. (Charisse) Gillis, Jamar Gillis (Lakeysha), Crystal Gillis-Bowman, Jamya Gillis and Roderick Edkis (Kristin); 11 grandchildren; mother, Minnie Thomas; brothers: H. Douglas (Gladys) Scruggs, John Gillis, Wayne Saffell, Charles Gillis III (Quintel), Dewayne (Shenaiah) Thomas and Marquis (DeAnna) Brazelton; sisters: Peggy Fain, Frenchie Gillis-Jones, Donna Gillis, Jaye P. (Jeff) Gray, Evette Gillis-Baker, Shelly Thomas and Renadanna (DeForest) Shell; a host of other family and friends too numerous to name.
Saturday, September 1, 2018, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with service to follow at Peace and Goodwill M.B. Church. Pastor Dexter Mims, Sr. will be the eulogist.
