Mary Jo Rice, 90, surrounded by her loving family peacefully returned home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2018. She victoriously entered her eternal resting place yet lived this life with passion, style and a sixth sense for cleanliness. Her love of family was immense and her love of a “clean house” was evident. Mrs. Rice never left her home without a well-starched blouse and pants on her person. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Preceded in death by her sons, Kenny Sullivan and Bryan “Pete” Cowley; parents, John and Cora Lee Henry; brother, Doc Henry and devoted cousin, Alberta Kyle.
Survived by husband of over 50 years, James Thomas Rice; daughters: Catherine Buley (posthumously), Cindy Sullivan, Deborah Rockmore, Denise Rice, Karen (Chuck) Dragg, Yvette Rice and Shelly (Royce) Davis; sons: Bobby Henry, Wayne (Jane) Rockmore and Rick (Stephanie) Rice; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and special cousins, the Sims family of Georgia.
Saturday, January 20, 2018, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with service to follow at Community Evangelistic Church at 2650 Boyds Bridge Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914. Pastor Sanford Miller, Sr., Officiant and Elder James "Rick" Rice, Eulogist. Interment to follow at New Gray Cemetery where a white dove release will conclude the service.
