Mary Simmons Obituary

Mary Lois (Jimmy) Simmons, affectionately known as “Gran Gran,” went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 19,2018.

 Born December 6, 1941 to T.J. Gaines and Velma Clemons (Willie) Gordon in Vaiden, Mississippi.

 She was the owner of Just Us Apparel and loved telling jokes. She loved fishing and playing bingo.

 Her saying “I’m a little piece of leather, well put together” and “Never say goodbye…Always say see you later” were known to all.  Mary loved the Lord and met no strangers.

 Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Harry Brock and Billy Simmons; son, Harry Brock, Jr; grandson, Tavellis Brock and brothers, Willie Lee Gordon and Michael Gordon

 Left to cherish her memory: daughters, Diane (Steve) Wiley of Oak Ridge, TN and Marsha (Darryl) Johnson of Pooler, GA; son, Vaughn Brock of Oak Ridge, TN; step- children; Keith, Davon and Shalonda Simmons; grandchildren, Keisha (Ron) Barnette of Oak Ridge, TN, Ebony Timmons of Duluth, GA, Diana Timmons and Natazza Brock, both of Pooler, GA, Rolpheal Radcliffe of Knoxville, TN, Darryl, Jr. and Darvaughn Johnson, both of Pooler, GA; several great grandchildren; sisters, Sallie Mae Collier, Willene Griffin and Carolyn Phillips, all of Harriman, TN; brothers, Tony (Judy) Gordon of Chesapeake, VA,  Eugene (Karen) Gordon and Vance Gordon, both of Harriman, TN; aunt, Jane Clemons; sisters-in-law, Rev. Dr. Rose Simmons, Bess Bridgeman and Joan Maynor; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

 Saturday, October 27, 2018, the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a homegoing celebration to follow at Spurgeon Chapel AME Zion Church, 100 Houston Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 where Reverend Churchill Moore, Pastor, Reverend Alvin Douglass, Officiant and Reverend Dr. Rosa Simmons, Eulogist.  Interment will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
