Melvin Lee Porter Jr

Melvin Lee Porter Jr., age 55, left his earthly home on January 5, 2018, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was committed to his faith and loved the Lord, and his family. He was planning retirement from package car driving with 34 years of service from United Parcel Service, but God had another plan. He will forever be missed, but to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Jean “Dinkey” Drew Porter; maternal grandparents, Katie “Kitty” Hemphill Drew and Herman T. Drew Sr.; paternal grandparents, Annie Kaye Zuber and Jack Porter, and brother-in-law, Danny Latham.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Teresa Latham Porter; daughters, Kandace Porter (Thomas) Clark and Kristyn Porter; granddaughter, Miranda Mack, who affectionately knew him as “G-daddy”; father, Melvin Lee Porter Sr.; sisters, Stephanie “Tut” (Rev. Victor E., Sr.) King and Angela “Angie” (Shane) Brooks; brother, Courtney Brown; uncle, Charles “Pete” Drew; aunts, Della H. Oliver and Reba Drew; special cousin, Katie Brown; god-mother, Mary Jo Lawrence; seven brothers- in-law; one sister-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends who loved him dearly. 

Saturday, January 13, 2018, the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with service to follow at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church, 520 College Street, Knoxville, TN 37921.  Reverend Dr. Michel S.E. Caldwell, Pastor, Reverend Cedric Jackson, Officiant and Reverend Victor E. King, Sr., Eulogist.   Interment will follow at New Gray Cemetery where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
