Minister Norman Lumpkin Obituary

'Reflection and Memories of a Life Well Lived
11-16-48 to 06-19-19

Minister Norman Lumpkin is the fifth child and the third son blessed and added to the union of the late Archie and Ruby Lee Johnson-Lumpkin.

Norman was born at 1:45 p.m. on the second Tuesday of Nov. 16, 1948, in Cuthbert, Ga, Randolph County. His parents later moved their family to Quincy, Fla., where he grew up.

Norman accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior at the tender age of 10. He grew up in the church and sing in the church choir. Norman had a beautiful singing voice and led most of the songs in the youth and adult choir. God called him into the ministry of the gospel early in his life. He was ordained by the late Pastor Charles Allen of Bible Way Church of God in Christ in Cleveland, where he served as one of the associate ministers for many years.  He later  attended Church of Harvest in Cleveland with Pastors Hank and Rhonda Davis.

Norman met his lovely wife, Margaret, at Carter-Paramore High School 50 years ago. They later went on to become high school sweethearts, and had been together ever since. They were married on Jan. 6, 1974, and to their union was added two daughters, Alesia Nicole and Felicia Diane.

After graduating from high school in 1969, Norman later went on to attend the National School of Business in Cleveland, where he received his associate degree in accounting. After getting his degree, he   relocated his family from Tallahassee, Fla., to Cleveland, in 1976.

Norman loved spreading the word of God to others. You could often find him sharing God’s word or passing out religious pamphlets, listening to gospel music, singing, praising, worshiping, and spending time with his family. Norman was a proud African American man with a tender heart of gold. What he truly enjoyed the most was reading the bible, having devotion, and studying the word God. That was his pure joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Archie and Ruby Lee Johnson-Lumpkin.

Loving memories will be treasured, and he will be missed by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Lumpkin; his children: Alesia Nicole (Adam) Andrews and Felicia Dianne (Doug Frazier); siblings: Bernice Edwards, Jannie Maude Lee, Adell (Leatha) Lumpkin, Willie Zell (Rita) Lumpkin , Edward (Sarah Grace) Lumpkin, Edna (Lee) Smith, Linda (Arthur T.) Becton, Willie (Sandra Kaye) Roger Lumpkin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend. He was truly an angel on Earth and will be sincerely missed.

The body may be viewed at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair St. S.E. Cleveland, from noon until 6 p.m. on Friday.
