Norman Vincent Hodge Sr

Norman Vincent Hodge Sr. was born May 16, 1946 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and raised by parents Ed and Della Brabson Harris. Norman was a graduate of Austin High School, and later served as a member of the United States Armed Forces, becoming a Vietnam-era veteran. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the Air National Guard in 1979. Norman was married to Belinda E. Hodge from 1969 to 2001, and made his living as an engineer for over 30 years for Norfolk Southern Corporation, where he retired. Norman enjoyed yard work, riding his choppers, and playing the saxophone. He was a faithful member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Surrounded by his family, Norman V. Hodge Sr, 71, departed this life on November 19, 2017 and will be lovingly remembered for his extroverted personality.

Norman was preceded in death by parents Ed and Della Harris, sister Sherine Hodge, and brother John Anderson.

He is survived by children Ventrice K. Hodge, Norman V. Hodge Jr, Varil K. Hodge, and granddaughter Kara K. Hodge, whom he raised as a daughter; siblings Gerald Hodge, Geraldetta Hodge, Wilma Harris, and Eddie Harris. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Monday, November 27, 2017, the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with funeral service to follow at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church at 2500 E. Fifth Avenue Knoxville, TN 37917. Pastor Don Olive officiating. Interment will immediately follow at East TN Veterans Cemetery where military honors and a white dove release to conclude the service.
