SHIRLEY Z. BATTS

AKA“DUCK”

Shirley Batts age 64 of Cleveland, Tn. entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. She was born to the late Gladys King Westfield- Parker and Lester Westfield.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Gayle Westfield-George; brother, Elijah ‘Buster’ Westfield; many aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Shirley was a graduate of Bradley High School where she was a member of the ROTC(Reserve Officer Training Corps) and her special class was Culinary.  She was employed at Mayfield School where she was head cook and truly enjoyed her relationship with the children. Cooking was her joy, on any day you could go by her home to get a fish sandwich or a plate to go.  She was also employed with United Knitting Inc. and Excel Corp. as a security guard for many years.

Shirley was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she loved her church family and her pastor. She loved keeping company, having family and friends over for food, fun and laughter was her pleasure. 

Shirley was a sweet and caring person, always willing to listen and respond with words of love. Her smile was infectious and would lift a person’s spirit, bring joy to their day. Her favorite color was red, and her favorite flower was carnations.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 35 years, Warren Batts, who provided her with everything she would ask; her stepdaughter, Jennifer (Renaldo) Steward;

Sisters; Minister Debra Smith, Dewanna Westfield both of Cleveland, Tn. and Jennifer Westfield of Atlanta, Georgia; her mother-in-law, Betty Ledford; 

sister-in-law, Stacy (Keith) White; brothers-in-law, Tommy Ledford, Wayne Ledford, and Williams (Beverly) Phipps, all of Jefferson City, Tn; 

aunts, Ophelia Ball, Elizabeth Green, Francis Arnold, and Louvenia Thompson all of Cleveland, Tn., Linda Constant of Chattanooga, Tn; uncle, Sherman McCleary of Charleston, Tn.; god daughter/niece, Ashley Smith; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, love ones, and friends; Jill and Tebow Gash, who she called her son and daughter; special friends, Kay Cox, Liz Wilcox, Rena Jordon, Carolyn Edmondson; her very close friends, Octavia Pugh, whom many days they were inseparable and Dudley Whaley who was as much of a brother as a friend.

Body may be view Saturday, March 16 from 12:00 noon until 6:00p.m. at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair Street S.E. Cleveland, Tn.  Family will receive friends Sunday, March 17 from 2:30p.m. until service time, 3:00p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 799 Inman Street E., Cleveland, Tn. 37311.  Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. will be the Eulogist, Rev. Alfred B. Johnson Sr. will Officiate.  Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery.  Patton Funeral Home is honored to serve the Batts family. www.pattonfuneralhome1962.com
