Amie Lea Henderson was born November 26,1946, in Lonesome Dove, Powell, TN to the late Walter Lee Underwood and Zennia Katherine Elder. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by grandmother Joannia Hall, brothers: Charles Hurley Latham and William "Bill" Latham, stepson Wesley Howard III, and great-grandchild, Titan Marquis Pendergrass.
Amie was educated in the Clinton Public Schools. She later went on to worked for Knoxville Civic Auditorium before relocating to Oak Ridge to work at the Union Carbide Corporation K-25 Plant. She later transferred to the Y-12 Plant where she worked as a Chemical Operator. After 27 years of service, she retired from the Plant.
She accepted Christ while attending Edgewood Chapel AME Zion Church in Knoxville, TN. Later in life she became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, TN. As a member of Mt. Zion, she served on the kitchen committee, the Abbie Gai Vinson Scholarship committee and participated with the Wing Nite Crew. She loved her Mt. Zion family!
She was a member of the P-Knuckster Pinocle Club in Knoxville, TN where she enjoyed traveling across the U.S. competing in tournaments hosted by National Pinochle Association (NPA). She was also an active member of the Oak Ridge Sertoma Club.
Her favorite passion was being a member of the I.B.P.O.E. of the World! As a member of Roberta Bohanon Temple #1381, Oak Ridge, TN, she held all position in the local order including serving as Daughter Ruler for 20 years. She held Loyal Vice Daughter Ruler, Trustee, and other positions in the Myrtle Spears Council. As a member of the James R. Reynolds, Military Police. Unit #1152, she achieved the rank of colonel, served as Chairperson for Wages and Means, helped develop the souvenir journal, and supported the Encourage the Blind initiative. For her work, she received the Dedicated Service Award from the Antler Guard Department.
She served in various roles and received honors from the Tennessee State Association: State Education Directress, Healthy Heart Directress, Hospitality Department, Daughter Elk for Outstanding Leadership, Esteem Vice President for 20 years for Past State Presidents Circle (PSP), First Vice position for Aileen Hardin Circle, Lablanche Jackson Awards for Outstanding and Dedicated Service and Daughter Elk of the Year.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, working puzzles, playing cards, travelling, visiting casinos and spending time with her family and friends. Amie was firm and fierce, but she had a “heart of gold.” She made it her mission to help others by showing her friends and family the value and strength of a united Family!
On the evening of Wednesday August 17, 2022, Amie peacefully departed this earthly realm to be in the Arms of the Lord. An Elk Ceremony will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life to follow with Elder Henry Watson, eulogist. Flowers may be delivered prior to the service.
