Anna Louise Hill Obituary

Anna Louise Moore Gist Hill, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 25, 2023. She was a devoted member of Greater Warner Tabernacle AME Zion Church and loved the Lord.

Anna was born October 1, 1939, to the late Jessie James and Anna Beatrice Moore. Throughout her years she was a CNA and Recreations Community Center Director at Austin Homes.

Anna was a graduate of Austin High School class of 1958 and recently celebrated her 65th class reunion with her fellow classmates. In high school, she was a star athlete playing several sports and she passed all those good genes to her kids who were star athletes during their school days also.

Early on, she was a community leader at Raacule Village and instrumental in hiring young people giving them a chance to work and become independent and helped create a place for kids to go play. Anna enjoyed being a basketball coach at Sarah Moore Green Elementary School which led her to become a LRE teacher at Austin East High School.

In her spare time, Anna enjoyed bowling on many leagues at Fountain and Western Lanes bowling alleys where she showed her skills at making strikes and picking up those spare pins and was the type of person that loved family and friends. She always had encouraging conversations with anyone she came in contact with but especially with her grand kids. She also enjoyed traveling and seeing different places.

Most recently she celebrated her birthday and preformed an interpretive dance at her high school reunion where she received a standing ovation. That was a proud moment for her as all of her children cheered and applauded her in which she truly enjoyed herself.

She is preceded in death by Jesse James, Anna Beatrice Moore Washington (parents); Randall Dwayne Gist (son); Howard Moore, Willie Moore, Charles Washington, and Dr. Rev. James M. Washington (brothers).

She leaves to cherish her precious memories to her children Andre Gist, Jerry Gist, Terry Gist, Devon (James) Colson, Darvin (Rhonda) Hill; Paula Hill; and her sister Helen Washington Brown and brother Leonard (Lucky), nieces Beretta Prater and Sharon Prater.

Devoted family and friends, Andrea Johnson, Bernice Walton, Geraldine Hamilton, Joanne Buckner, Stanley Taylor, Jamesena Bennett, Adele Brown, Cheryl Hunter Sandra Martin, Cassie Turner, Maxine Dubose, Patricia Washington of New York, Nora Washington and Shirley Moore, Paul and Ruth Buckner; numerous Grand and great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
