Arlah Pruitt-Ewing

Arlah Pruitt Ewing, 71, was born in Toledo, Ohio, on July 28, 1951. She peacefully transitioned in Knoxville, TN, on Wednesday, March 08, 2023. She is the adopted daughter of Nora (great aunt) and Leonard Jackson(great uncle). She is the natural born daughter of Laura Patton.

Arlah graduated from Austin East High School, Knoxville, TN, Class of 1969. She learned Spanish from elementary through high school and visited Mexico as part of the exchange student program. Arlah received her bachelor's degree in Education from Fisk University, Nashville, TN, where she also became a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She later earned her master's degree in Education from the University of TN, Knoxville. She began her teaching career at Fair Garden, where she eventually won the "Teacher of the Year' for Knoxville City Schools. She later retired from teaching at Bonny Kate Elementary in Knoxville. Arlah was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated her 33rd year of sobriety. She retired a second time from Cornerstone of Recovery, Louisville, TN, where she worked as a recovery monitoring counselor.

Mrs. Ewing is preceded in death by her loving parents; and brothers, Lionel (Nancy) Driver, Howard Patton, and Charles Patton.

Arlah is survived by her sons, Austin (Kim) Pruitt IV, Julian (Lakweshia) Ewing, and Marcellus (Arlinda) Ewing; grandchildren, Jaylon, Kimara, AJ, Justin, Fredrick, and Emerson; great-grandchildren Kaliyah and Kyrie; her dearly beloved cousin, Carolyn Hollingsworth; and nephew Antonio (Tamula) Sales and a host of family and friends.
