Augusta Burnette Obituary


Augusta "Rene" Booker Burnett- Born December 23, 1925 to the late Jack and Bertha (Bittie) Spraggins in West Point, Miss. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Lois A. Kirk and Vickie Lynn Booker: Four brothers: Will C. Spraggins, Joe Spraggins, M.C. Spraggins and Willie Russell Spraggins: One sister Rosie B. Vance.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She attended Robinson Baptist Church in Mississippi. She married the late C.D. Booker in 1943. To that union they had eleven children. She moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the late 1947. She became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. C.C. Fuller and Rev. D.J. Ward. She was a faithful member. She later attended True Light Baptist Church.

She raised several of her grandchildren, who love her dearly. She returned to Mississippi in 1991 where she attended St. Paul Baptist Church and married the late Isaac Burnette. Then several years later, she returned to Oak Ridge, TN.

She was a domestic worker as well as a cook in several restaurants in the Oak Ridge area (Davis Brothers, Holiday Inn, The Terrace and the Oak Ridge Country Club).  She was as an awesome cook!

She leaves to cherish her loving family: Five sons: W.C. Booker, Herbert C. (Sheila) Booker, Willie T. (Debra)Booker, James E. (Rhonda) Booker all of Oak Ridge, TN and Perry D. (Angie) Booker of Knoxville, TN: Four daughters: Mary E. Booker, Geneva Booker of Oak Ridge, TN,  Jerry Lynn (Greg) Booker Patterson, and Tracy A. Booker of Chattanooga, TN. Two brothers: Walter (Martha) Spraggins of Los Angeles, California, Ernest Spraggins, Chicago, Illinois: Two sisters: Eloisa Baskins, Chicago Illinois and Lou Dean Holliday, West Pointe, Mississippi. Thirty-eight grandchildren, eighty-six great grandchildren, and forty-two great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. The family would like to the thank Amedisys Home Health Care, Hospice and The Oak Ridge Wound Center.

Saturday, April 11, 2020, a graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Elder Henry D. Watson as the eulogist.  During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor's Executive Order #17 (COVID-19).  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
