Barbara Pugh Obituary

Barbara “Jean” Pugh was born May 18, 1937 in Cleveland, TN to the late Mae O. Tibbs and Calvin W. Jarrett. She departed this life on September 30, 2020 in Chattanooga, TN.

She was a devoted long-time member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Leona Westfield Mission Board, and other various committees.  She previously served as the Treasurer for the Bradley County NAACP Chapter and worked for the local election board.  She retired from Maytag Cooperation and would never allow her job to keep her from serving her church and community.

Jean had a tough exterior but a heart of gold.  She was always willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone in need.  She was devoted to her family, always stepping in as a surrogate mother, a loving auntie and would offer a firm guiding hand when needed.   She was also devoted to her community and loved being "auntie" to all the neighborhood kids.

In her later years, she loved spending her days on her front porch so she could talk with friends and neighbors. Jean will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her mother, Mae O. Tibbs; father, Calvin W. Jarrett; sister, Dorothy J. Moore; brothers, Gregory A. Tibbs, Dennis Jarrett, and Gilbert Jarrett; brothers-in-law, Rev. Paul McCleary, and Bill Berry;former husband, James Pugh.

Survived by her sisters, Marie Berry of Charleston, TN, Brenda Jarrett, Waynetta Jarrett Taylor of Cleveland, TN and Purnella McCleary of Charleston, TN; brother, Calvin G. Jarrett (Deliah) of Waterbury, CT; a very special niece, who was like a daughter to her, Kelli L. Moore of Cleveland, TN; other nieces and nephews, Lasonya Goldston (Allen), Connie Colbert, Tamra Jarrett, Karin Moore, Janet McCann (Aaron), Nicole Moore (Vincent); great nieces and nephews, Makayla Colbert, Brielle Jarrett, Tristen McCann,  Brendan Lawrence, Briana Moore, Jordyn Moore, Kezmond Pugh and Tequila Tibbs, Kaia Dodd and “her boys” Parker Jackson and Quentin Jackson; special friends, Francis Arnold, Barbara Hunt, Daisy Phillips, and Ann Pugh and many other beloved family members and dear friends.

Saturday, October 3, 2020, a public walk through visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair Street SE, Cleveland, TN.  Social distancing and face masks are required.  Sunday, October 4, 2020, a funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 799 Inman Street, Cleveland, TN with Reverend Edward S.
