Benjamin Jasper Lawrence, Jr., lovingly known as Bishop Lawrence, was born to Benjamin Sr and Mary Lawrence and passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Lawrence in 1978. His two beloved sons, Benjamin Lawrence, III and Adrian Lawrence, tragically passed away alongside him in a house fire. He is mourned by Perry Lawrence Sr (Vikki) (Chattanooga, TN), Kim Lawrence (Cleveland, TN), Derrick Lawrence (Cleveland, TN) and Dr. Karl E. Lawrence (Chindi) (Knoxville, TN. as well as a host of in-laws, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish his memory. A proud graduate of William Penn High School where he was the quarterback for the football team. He received multiple scholarships, but decided to get marrried and go into the ministry.

A devoted minister with the Church of God of Prophecy for over 69 years, Bishop Lawrence was licensed in July 1955 and ordained as a bishop in August 1961. He pastored churches for many years and was called to serve under general appointment in 1967, first in Home Missions and later as a representative for the Bible Training Institute. He dedicated 24 years to this calling, supported unwaveringly by his beloved wife, Betty, who preceded him in death in March 2021. Bishop Lawrence was particularly fond of his brother-in-law, Bishop Floyd D. Collins, Sr., who was more like a brother to him. They enjoyed extended phone conversations weekly and often exchanged heartfelt letters. He was an incredible man of God with a remarkable voice, a gift he passed down to his sons. In his younger days, he was a proud member of the Sons of Harmony gospel singing group he also played the guitar.

Known for his stylish form-fitting suits, Bishop Lawrence was a distinguished figure, both in presence and in spirit. He had a heart for people and was passionate about winning the lost at any cost. His legacy of faithful leadership is marked by his strong emphasis on maintaining "sound doctrine" and long suffering within the Church of God of Prophecy. His influence will continue through all those he trained and inspired throughout his life.

Bishop Lawrence will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication, and the profound impact he had on countless lives.
