Brenda Ann Alexander Obituary
Brenda Ann Alexander, born on October 28, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina, entered eternal rest surrounded by the love and legacy of a life well lived. She was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Perry and Amelia Johnson, and from her earliest days she carried the values of faith, kindness, and devotion that would define her journey through life. Brenda’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Brenda was educated in the Class of 1967 at Charles M. Hall High School in Alcoa, Tennessee, where she began building the foundation for a life marked by strength, grace, and perseverance. She carried herself with dignity and purpose, and those qualities remained evident throughout every season of her life. Brenda was known as a woman of deep faith, a loving spirit, and a generous heart. She gave freely of herself, offering encouragement, comfort, and support to family, friends, and church members alike.
In 1968, Brenda joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member for more than 58 years. Her commitment to the church was unwavering, and her service reflected her sincere love for God and His people. Brenda was active in many areas of ministry, including Monday Evening Study Session, BYF, Vacation Bible School, Abi Ga Vinsion, and the Christian Response Ministry. She was a devoted servant in every role she accepted, and her steady presence was a source of strength and inspiration to the congregation.
Brenda’s love for music became one of the most beautiful expressions of her faith. Her gift led her into the role of choir director, where she used her voice and leadership to uplift others in worship. She served as a praise and worship leader and shared her talent with joy and humility. Brenda also sang with Praise Honor and Glory, Melody Airs, The Johnson Family, and many other local groups. Through music, she ministered to hearts, lifted spirits, and helped create moments of praise that will be remembered for years to come.
Brenda's statement of praise was "Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus".
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Perry and Amelia Johnson; her son, Terrence Anthony; and her daughter, Albia Alexander. Though their absence was deeply felt, Brenda carried their memory with love and grace throughout her life. She found strength in her faith and continued to be a source of comfort and encouragement to those around her, even in times of sorrow.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Albert Alexander; her daughters, Shalonda Turner and Kimberly Anthony; and her bonus children, Adrienne Coronado, Kevin (Veronica) Alexander, John Inman, Michael Brown, and Sheena Dulaney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dederick Oliver, Kendra Wells, Ashland Smith, Alexus (Tashina Kelsie-Smith) Smith, Joslynn Majors, T’Yanah Crowley, Aetesha Booker, Terrance Anthony, Juan Coronado, Carlton Chambers, Anya Anderson, Tacori Alexander, Tamar Alexander, and Tanai Alexander, along with six great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.
Brenda is also survived by her siblings, Abraham Johnson, Eleanor Manning, Barney (Faye) Johnson, Vivian (Garry) Hill, and Rose Maria (Charles) Yancy; her sisters-in-law, Mary Colbert and Lila Alexander; her brother-in-law, Lawrence Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close friends, and relatives. Her family was a source of pride and love for her, and she cherished each relationship deeply. She was a steady presence, a comforting voice, and a faithful example of what it means to love well.
Brenda Ann Alexander will be remembered as a faith-filled, loving, and generous woman whose life reflected the beauty of service, devotion, and compassion. Her legacy of worship, family devotion, and quiet strength will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
