Carolyn Matthews Obituary

Carolyn “Lynette” Matthews, 60, of Cleveland, departed this earthly home and reunited with family in their heavenly home on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020.

Lynette was born on Dec. 6, 1959, in Cleveland, to the late Charles L. Pitner Jr. and June Carol Tucker.

She graduated from Cleveland High School, Class of ’78, where she was a member of the Cleveland High School Blue Raider Marching Band.

Lynette was a woman of many words who never met a stranger, yet was loved and adored by all who grew to know her. She delighted in spending time with her Christian Fellowship Center Church family. Even as her body began to fail, she would always say, “I may be late, but I’m going to give God some praise.”

She had a sincere love for the youth of her church, participating in cast parties, summer feeding programs and vacation Bible school.

Lynette also loved to volunteer at the A.M.E. Zion Church Medical Clinic, where she was everyone’s nurse.

The stories and memories of her larger-than-life personality and clever sense of humor will be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James Matthews and Mary Jarrett; maternal great-grandmother, Bertha Redding (Mama Bert); and her paternal grandfather, Charles L. Pitner Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her two loving and caring daughters: Shanetta Matthews and MaKesha Sharp, both of Cleveland; one devoted son, Kezmond Pugh of Cleveland; one brother, Charles (Renay) Matthews of Cleveland; her twin sister, Carol Matthews of Cleveland; one special aunt, Ann Armstrong of Cleveland; devoted cousin, Waynetta Jarrett-Taylor of Cleveland; helpful nephew, Ralph Ricks; and many other relatives and friends.

The family would especially like to express appreciation to the friends who stood by her side when her health began to decline: Paulette Pugh, Jennifer Ferrarh, Cindy Rohlff, Karen Gillespie, Kimberly Pugh, Connie Redmond, Teresa Jackson and Pastor Teresa Oglesby,

A special thanks to the staff at Etowah Health Care, to the doctors and nurses that cared for her, to Bradley Cleveland Community Services Agency and her Christian Fellowship Center Church family. Thank you, Pastor Martha Tibbs, for your dedication and always coming whenever you were called upon.

The body may be viewed today, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair St. S.E., Cleveland, TN 37311.
