Chaka Sligh Obituary

Chaka NaEmia Trayvise Sligh departed this life Saturday, July 17, 2021. She was born Tuesday, September 11, 1984, in Knoxville, TN to Deborah Gail Sligh and Gary Lee Releford.

Chaka gave her life to Christ at Open Door Church and was taking steps on a path to a new life. She is on a much better path now, directed by the Lord.

We are truly going to miss you "Sligh" and will always love you. We know you are in heaven saying, "I love you more!"

Preceded in death by her mother; grandparents, Aquilla Cantrell, Frank Sligh, Sr., Richard Jackson, Sr., Mary Releford and Eugene Brice; great grandmother, Irene Cantrell; uncle, Ricky Jackson, Jr.; aunts, Inda and Deb Releford, Penny Sligh and Stephanie Glass; cousins, Adairus "Scooter" Sligh and Rudy Stinson, Jr.

Survived by her children, Averyanah "Nyra" Simmons, Jamijha "Bert Bert" and Adarius "Chingy" Redmond; father, Gary Lee Releford; siblings, Ebony Perry, Tyshonna Sligh, Tiffany and Ryan Nolan, Dorel and DeAuntay Tate; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Regina (Tyson) King, Marie Glass, Anna Marie Wade, Roshetta (Frederick) McClish, Debbie Black, Doris Davenport, Shetara (Richard) Weaver and Cookie Sligh; uncles, Daryl "Chip" Sligh, Sr., Andre' Releford, Maurice Brown, Hauns Mathis; great aunt, Shirley King; great uncle, Lawrence (Mary) Dixson; cousins, Cynara Releford, Marcus Boatwright-Sligh, Daryl Sligh, Jr., Ricky, Rico and Raymond Jackson, Demarcus Badgett Jackson, James Dean, JaMia (Victor) Smith, Jordan Bowden, J'Anah Davis, Kayla Goss, Maurice Hall, Nikki Clark, Wylie King, Jr., Antonio Lanxter, John and Johneshia Weston, Haundajah, Hauns, Jr. and Haundeeria Mathis, David Gillette and other cousins; God-fathers, Dana Littlejohn Sr. and Carlos Irvin; a host of other family and friends to include LeKitcha Norment, Maria Simmons, Marlene Houston, Jennifer Steadman, the Sligh, Releford, Cantrell, Dixson, King, McAfee and Love families, the Lonsdale and Morningside communities, Faith Promise Small Group, Open Door Church, Smoky Mountain Hospice and The Valor Guild.

Friday, July 30, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Open Door Church, 2806 Sherman Street, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. A service will follow for immediate family and close friends with Pastor Steve A. Simpson, Sr. as the eulogist. Interment at New Gray Cemetery, 2724 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN, where a white dove release will conclude the service.
