Charles Langston Obituary

The Lord God called for his faithful servant, Charles Edward Langston, Jr. on Monday, September 7, 2020. Educated in Knoxville City Schools, he later joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served and was Honorably Discharged. He earned his doctorate degree from Anderson Theology Seminary. Charles was a minister who loved to preach the gospel. A devoted member of St. Joseph House of Prayer, he labored tirelessly as an Armor Bearer for over 15 years, mentored to the Brothers in Christ, was a keeper of the temple and cared for the sick and shut in. He was indeed a great neighbor, friend, prayer warrior who shared himself so freely and with so many. His personal enjoyment was riding his motorcycle called “Batmobile.” He referred to that time as “Wind therapy.”

Preceded in death by parents, Charles E. Langston, Sr., and Sarah Smith Langston; grandparents, Colus Q. Roper and Annie Mae Roper and spiritual father, Bishop Joseph A. Gordon.

Survived by loving wife, Angela Rene Langston; children, Teneka Langston Havis, Reanna (Randolph) Brown and Hugh C. Langston, III; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Johnnie Mae, Wanda, Debra, Booker T., Brenda, LaTisha and Charles Langston III.; several nieces and nephews; his Overseer, Tonya Tucker-Owens; devoted mother-in-law, Thelma Gordon; best friend and bowling partner, Robert “Uncle Bob” Gordon; adopted Mothers in Christ, Mary Saffell and Mary Hodges; godchildren, Jo Angel and “Sugar Mama”; a host of other family and friends to include his church family.

Monday, September 14, 2020, a graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at East TN Veterans Cemetery, 2200 Gov. John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN.  Overseer Tonya Tucker-Owens will officiate.  Military honors and a white dove release will conclude the service.  During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order #17 (COVID-19).
