Charles Roland Powell, 93, was born on August 28, 1931. He transitioned to his eternal rest on March 18, 2025, with family at his bedside.
Charles attended Second Missionary Baptist Church for many years and joined the fellowship in 2024, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Ernest L. Reid Jr.
Charles attended Chattanooga Public Schools. He served in the United States Army, worked at the Volunteer Army Ammunition plant, and retired from W.R. Grace chemical after 20 plus years.
Among those who preceded his death include his parents: Margaret Betts and Fred Hughley Sr.,two brothers; Melvin Powell and Fred Hughley Jr; aunt, Merneatha and Rosa Buckmon; uncles, Jack, Charles, Robert and James Buckmon and daughter-in-law Sue Powell.
Cherishing his memories include his loving wife of 56 years, Velma Geraldine Powell, daughter Angela Davis; sons Victor (Andrea) Powell, Stephen Powell, Carlos McConnell, and Stanley (Tracey) Powell; granddaughters: Ariel(Jonathan)Smith, Arica McConnell, and Alexis McConnell. Grandson’s; grandsons: Adrian (Natalie) Powell, Leroy (Ebonie) Scott, Charleston Scott, Desean McConnell, and Tevin Scott; 13 great-grandchildren, a host of bonus children, bonus grandchildren,nieces, nephews,other relatives, and friends.
