Charles William "Sonny" Richards, aged 74, a lifelong resident of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024 at Fort Sanders Hospital. Born on January 13, 1950, Sonny's infectious smile and generous spirit were a beacon of light to all who knew him. Sonny was a proud graduate of Austin High School. His love for football and basketball kept him in his much-loved recliner. 

He worked at Millers Department Store until retirement. His companion, Ella Mae James, along with dear friends Elizabeth Humphrey, Denise "Ditty" Smith, and Alvin McKenzie, will fondly remember the countless shared moments of joy and the unbreakable bonds of friendship they formed with Sonny over the years. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn "Kitty" Atchley. His absence will be deeply felt, but the memories he created with each person will be cherished and celebrated. 

Sonny was a family man at his core, his life a tapestry woven with the love and laughter of his children, Vera R. Smith, Patricia A. Smith, Charles C. Foster, and Alonzo C. James; grandchildren, Demarcus T. Jamison, Jada (Ben) Foster Flowers, Aniya Foster, Juakee White, Alonzo James, Travis Duncan, Laziyah Washington, and great-granddaughter Lalai Flowers will carry forward his legacy.
