Clara Braxton Obituary


Clara Lee Braxton, age 59, departed this life on May 24, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville.  Originally from Heidelberg, MS, she and her family resided in Lewiston, Maine before moving to Knoxville which has been their home since 1991.  Clara was a God- filled and passionate woman.  She worshipped and worked in many capacities as a devoted member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  Clara worked in the Knox County Schools System as a substitute teacher and later as Outreach Advisor at the Eastside YMCA.  

Preceded in death by: parents, Rosa Lee and J.D. McCormick; sister, Orean Spanks; mother-in-law, Jessie Braxton and brother-in-law, Willie R. Braxton.

Left to cherish her memory: loving husband, Reginald Braxton; daughters, Talisa McCormick and Jamie Harry; son, Charlos (Kandi) Braxton; grandchildren: Tacarlos McCormick, Taderrius McCormick, Jair Harry, Takiyah Braxton, Charlos Braxton Jr.  J’Kira Harry, Deadrick McAfee Jr., Kalise Braxton, Claralee Davis and Dominique Hearn; great-granddaughter, Ta’Khari McCormick; god child, Jaliah Robinson; sisters, Earline Hollins, Carrie (Kenny) Phillips and Diane Smith of Picayune, MS; brothers, Willie (Debbie) McCormick and James (Cheryl) McCormick of Picayune MS; sisters-in-law: Claudette Braxton, Cathy Porter and Diana Hall; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends to include Elder Joe B. and First Lady Vivian Maddox.  

Saturday, June 2, 2018, the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with service to follow at New Hope M.B. Church at 2504 Cecil Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.  Elder Joe B. Maddox officiating.  Interment will take place on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at East TN Veterans Cemetery where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the day of the funeral service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
