Cynthia Dunnigan Obituary

Cynthia Eunetta Dunnigan, age 47, passed away peacefully March 7, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 11, 1971 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Walter T. Dunnigan and Jacqueline Brown.

Cynthia and her family moved to Oak Ridge, TN in the early 70s. At a young age, Cynthia joined Oak Valley Baptist church where she used her beautiful voice to sing in the choir. After years of living away from Oak Ridge, she recently re-dedicated her life to Christ and re-joined Oak Valley Baptist Church where Reverend Derrick Hammond is the pastor.

Cynthia was educated in the Oak Ridge School System. In her junior high years, she became heavily involved in athletics. She participated in basketball and track at Jefferson Junior High from 1985-1986. She went on to become a vital part of the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat basketball and track teams from 1986-1989, where they won state championships. Because she was so dominant and powerful in sports, Cynthia earned the nickname “Powerhouse”. She continued her education and basketball career by attending The Ohio State University, on a full athletic basketball scholarship.

Cynthia had a love of music. One of her favorite pastimes was listening to Gospel music, where she would use her beautiful voice and sing along with each song.  She was an avid sports fan and spent many afternoons watching various sporting events on TV.  Her personality was larger than life. She always had a smile on her face and a joke on her lips. Her vivacious personality was a crowd drawer, always making people around her laugh.  Everywhere she went she made friends and never meeting a stranger.

She was very dedicated to her family, especially her daughter Cornisha.  Cynthia embraced every moment and every day she had with her family.

There will be a heavenly reunion as Cynthia joins those who preceded her in death; Eddie and Erma Choice, grandparents; Jacqueline Brown, mother; Walter Dunnigan, father and  Davion Brown Sr., nephew.

Left to carry on Cynthia’s legacy:  David Green, companion; Cornisha Clemons, loving daughter, Deadrick (Vanessa) Brown, brother, Tracy (Donna) Brown, sisters, Sheila (Herbert) Booker, and Ginger Perry; nephews: Ka'Vaughn Brown Cutno, Montinique Freeman Jr., Jamel Jones Jr., Jamir Jones, Marcquece Booker, Deadrick Brown Jr., Patrick Harris Jr., and Davion Brown Jr.; nieces: Future Brown, Mylena Jones, Takeera Brown, Deidra (Jimel) Jones, and La’Toya Brown, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins that will cherish her memory.

Saturday, March 16, 2019, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at Oak Valley Baptist Church, 194 Hampton Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.  Reverend Derrick Hammond as the eulogist.  Interment will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L. Buckmon, LFD 1-800-824-8283 or www.pattonfuneralhome1962.com
