David Earland Rucker, Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on August 18, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, David was a man of great character who was known for his warmth, devotion to his family, and passion for life.
David was the beloved son of the late David Earland Rucker, Sr. and Charity Pearl Rucker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Ray Rucker, brothers in law, Charles Watkins and Alvin Wilson, his sister, Thelma Rucker, and niece, Deborah Phillips. David is survived by his cherished wife, Sharon Rucker, his loving daughters, Felisha Elam and Tara Holt, his sisters Dorothy Watkins, Marguerite Wilson and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
David was a proud graduate of Tennessee State University, where he earned a degree in Sociology. His education laid the foundation for his successful career and instilled in him a lifelong love of learning. Post-graduation, David served his country with honor as a member of the US Army. His dedication to service was a testament to his patriotism and commitment to his country. After his military service, David worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority for several years and continued to contribute to his community through his work at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, from which he retired after years of dedicated service.
David was a man of many interests, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a source of wisdom, guidance, and love, always ready to lend an ear or share a laugh. David was also an avid football fan. Whether he was watching a game on TV or cheering from the stands, his enthusiasm was infectious. His other favorite pastime was relaxing, a simple pleasure that he thoroughly enjoyed.
Despite his many accomplishments, David was a humble man who valued the simple things in life. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his strength of character, his unwavering integrity, and his deep love for his family.
David Earland Rucker Jr's life was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and perseverance. His spirit, strength, and love will continue to inspire and guide us. His passing is a great loss, but his memory will live on, cherished and honored by all those whose lives he touched.
