Eliza Annette Johnson was born July 7, 1924, to the late Henry Johnson and Ejella Davis Johnson in Yantley, Alabama. She passed away November 3, 2021, at her home in Knoxville, Tennessee.
She attended Lady Alyce Beauty School and began a career that spanned over 69 years. She was the co-owner of Salon De Beaute for several years, located in First AME Zion Church on McCalla Avenue and later relocated to Magnolia Avenue. She was a member of the Tennessee Beautician Association, Beautician League Chapter #4, and named one of the Top Ten Hairdressers from the Hairdresser’s Association. Ms. Annette would eventually retire from Hair Fashion East at the age of 89. Making people feel good about their appearance was her ministry!
For seventy years, she was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
Left to her cherish memory are three loving daughters, Yawah Awolowo of Cuba AL, Sheila Willis, and Mona Kutsoati, both of Knoxville, TN: one loving son, Elgin Johnson of Knoxville. TN; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and twenty-six great-great grandchildren; sister, Clara Black of Lowell, MA; devoted niece, Rev. Dr. Vivian Williams of Knoxville, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
Thursday, November 11, 2021, a public walkthrough scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2714 Brooks Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37914. Social distancing and face coverings required. A funeral service will follow for immediate family and close friends. Rev. Dr. Johnnie Skinner officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church the afternoon of the walkthrough. A white dove release will conclude the service.
Saturday, November 13, 2021, interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, Lisman, Choctaw County, Alabama.
