Fred Foster Obituary


Fred Harrison Foster, 83, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee gained his wings on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Fred was born May 8, 1937 in Oliver Springs, TN to the late Hurley Foster and Susie Knaff. He joined the United States Airforce November 16, 1954. He was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington and later transferred to Denver, Colorado. He also served in the reserves in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fred was honorably discharged in November 1962. He was a member of Little Leaf Baptist Church in Oliver Springs and loved gardening and spending time with his family and friends. His favorite pass time was sharing his life stories, current events and sports talk with his nephew Zeke. Mr. Fred never met a stranger. He was known as the “Governor” everywhere he went.

Preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby, Geneva, Ellen and Lorene; brothers, Kyker, King, Abraham, Charlie and James and favorite cousin, Lil Arvil. Left to cherish his loving memory: niece, Susanna (Zeke) McCray; nephew, Willie (Keesha) Oliver; great nephews and nieces, Kaseem (Kaity) Davidson, Zion, Zayvion, Dynasty, Bekweri, DeMarion, Kariten, Zi’yer, Seemion, Keyleha , Kazmeer, Knoell; aunt, Clara Hughes, all of Oak Ridge; favorite cousins, Charles Earl Boyd and James Benjamin; extended family, the Barnetts and Turners; close friends, Alma and Harold Fletcher. The family would like to thank his nurse Stephanie and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.

Thursday, May 28, 2020, family and friends may view from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Little Leaf Baptist Church, 228 East Tri-County Boulevard, Oliver Springs, Tenn., where there will be limited capacity and social distancing in place. A private graveside will follow with Rev. Thomas Dews officiating. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order #17 (COVID-19).  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
