George Manning Obituary

George Cornell “Hawk” Manning departed his earthly home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at U.T. Medical Center. George was born on December 24, 1948, to the late Mr. Amos C., Sr. and Mrs. Anna L. Manning. George attended Austin High School. He loved to cook, barbecue, and was an avid fisherman. He was employed by Robert Shaw for over 30 years. He then worked at Fulton Bellows until he retired in 2017.

 

Preceded in death by his wife Margaret Manning, his parents, brother Amos C. Manning, Jr., and sister Helen Manning.

 

George is survived by his children, George C. Manning, Jr., Krystal and Ashley Stephens, and Angela D. Harris; seven grandchildren, to include devoted grandson Darryl “D. J.” Harris; four great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Annette Teasley, Maxine Winston, Gail Sullivan, Gwendolyn Manning, Joyce (Michael) Scruggs, Deborah (Darryl) Anthony, and Lydia Blakely; two brothers, Robert Manning and James (Debra) Manning; one aunt, Mrs. Sonya Armstrong; special friends to include Bill Love, Larry Minnefee, Ronnie and Johnnie Dave, Larkin and Sylvia Banks, Bill King, David Hartsell and the Hilltop Cruisers; a host of other family and friends too numerous to name.

 

Wednesday, January 20, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, 3800 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. A graveside service will follow at New Gray Cemetery, 2724 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN, where a white dove release will conclude the service. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order No. 17 (COVID-19). All expressions of love may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough.
