Geraldine Darling, a cherished matriarch and beacon of unwavering strength and faith, peacefully drifted off to sleep and into the arms of the Lord at her home on October 19, 2025, at the age of 97.
Born on September 24, 1928, in Taylorsville, North Carolina, Geraldine’s journey later led her to Knoxville, Tennessee, where she met and married the love of her life, William Tell Darling. Together, they raised a family that became the center of her world — their daughters, Diane Davis and Deborah Hicks, and their son, William Terry Darling, all of whom preceded her in passing.
Geraldine’s love extended to her surviving family members, including her granddaughter Miranda Jenkins and her husband Fred; her grandsons Ronald Bell and his wife Tracy, and Rodrick Hicks and his wife Stacey; and her great-grandchildren Chrishaunda Wilson, Deshane Burgess, Blake Jenkins, Kiriana Hirini, Justin Jenkins, Meagan Jenkins, Ronald Bell Jr., and Ahmad Hicks — along with the many great-great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Geraldine loved the Lord, her family, and her church deeply. She truly believed her family could do no wrong — her love for them was complete and unconditional. Her quiet strength, gentle heart, and steadfast faith inspired everyone blessed to know her.
Geraldine’s professional life was marked by 40 years of dedicated service at Fort Sanders Medical Center, where she not only excelled in her role but also fostered lasting relationships that reflected the warmth of her personal life. She was an active member of Roger’s Memorial Baptist Church and the Joy Club for many years.
She shared a lifelong friendship with Josephine Evans, her dear friend, and Charles Wallace, who faithfully called her every Sunday morning and bonus granddaughter, Ebony Frazier— along with a host of other special friends who brought joy and comfort to her life.
Geraldine Darling’s journey on earth has concluded, but Granny’s love, guidance, and faith live on in her grandchildren, who carry forward her legacy of devotion, kindness, and quiet strength.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
