Gregory Allen Thompson, Sr, age 77, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, departed this life peacefully on October 30, 2025, at Kindred Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Heavy Vehicle Driver, 64-Bravo 20, and received the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 devices, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He retired from Bowaters Paper Company after 25 years as a crane operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Thompson Jr. and Ollie Jewell Thompson (Miller), aunts, Josephine Mathis and Zella York, and uncles, Thedford Thompson and Cecil(Louise) Thompson, June Miller(Helen), sisters, Hilda Marie Thompson and Mary Jane Brewster, daughter, Veronica Lynn Thompson,and son, Gregory Allen Thompson Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frankie Thompson of Cleveland, Tn; sister Gayle Thompson of Cleveland, TN; brothers, Eugene Smith(Niki) of Cleveland, Tn and Steven Blair(Cynthia) Hutchinson of Elkhart, Md., brother-in-laws Thomas Jones and Donnell Jones of Knoxville Tn.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Jones of Knoxville, Tn., and Maxine Chandler(Jones) of Knoxville, Tn.; sons Jeffrey Thompson and Michael Thompson of Cleveland, Tn.; grandson, Jeffery Thompson of Cleveland Tn.; granddaughters, Tatyana Thompson of Clarksville, Tn., Nataziona Nelson of Cleveland, Tn., Justyce Thompson(Coonrod) of Chattanooga Tn., and bonus granddaughter, Tanasia Welcher of Cleveland Tn.; great granddaughter Alaeyah Benton of Clarksville Tn.; nephew, Rafael Taylor(Jasmine) of Cleveland Tn.; niece Alanna Collins of Chattanooga Tn.; cousin, Labron Miller(Terri) of Cleveland Tn., and Gloria Mayotte(Ray) of Raleigh North Carolina.
