Hazel Gurlena Brown, aged 90, was born to the late Wallace and Dora Moulden Brown on November 18, 1933, and peacefully entered into rest on August 25, 2024, at Sacred Ground Hospice House. A woman of deep faith and boundless love, Hazel accepted the Lord as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age and remained a steadfast servant of her church community throughout her life.
As a faithful charter member of True Vine Baptist Church, Hazel embodied the spirit of service, participating with joy and dedication on the Usher Board, as a Trustee, in the Choir, and in various other capacities. Her devotion to her church family was evident in every smile she shared and every hymn she sang, her love for her spiritual community shining through in all she did.
Hazel was preceded in death by husband, Leroy M. Brown; son, Donald Brown Sr; siblings, Clara (Bea) Clark, Bonnie Julius, and Wallace Brown Jr.; and other dear family members, her legacy lives on through those she leaves behind. Her loving daughters, Peggy Evans and Felicia (Harold) Washington; sons, Dennis Sr, Robert, and Jeff (Kim) Brown; beloved aunt, Dorothy Mynatt, daughter-in-law, Audrey Brown; brothers-in-law, Ernest and Clyde Brown; step-daughter, Gloria Gibson.
Hazel's grandchildren, Shelbra Bostick, Shannon Whiteside,Kenisha Brown,Daria Washington, Taylin and Macie Brown, and her bonus granddaughter, India Whittington, will forever cherish their grandmother's love and lessons. Her grandsons, Joshua Hunt, Dennis(Racquel) Brown Jr., Daniel Brown, Donald Brown Jr., Jeris Coker Sr, Dominique Starr, Jasiah, and Jadus Brown; great-grandchildren, Hasani, Joshua, Kamari, Nicholas, Isabella, Jafari, Jeris Jr., and Daniel Jr.
Hazel also leaves behind a community of family and friends who felt her impact, including her special relationships with nieces Debra (Deb) Julius and Dora (Sparkle) Toney, and her oldest friend from childhood, Ollie Cullom, who will all miss her deeply.
