James Lee Hawkins

JAMES L. (HAWK) HAWKINS was born May 4, 1955, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Daisy Mae Hawkins. He was granted Eternal Rest at his home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
James attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and occasionally during his adult life. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in June 1974, along with his classmates the ‘74 Cruisers’.
James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always liked entertaining and bringing joy and laughter to everyone he interacted with. He held conversations with many in his wheelchair while traveling on Tuskegee Drive. After losing his legs, he kept physically fit on his exercise equipment and by riding his wheelchair.
James was employed at Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Oak Ridge, TN (K-25 Plant), in 1976 as a laborer and lubricator. He moved to Athens, Georgia, in 1992 and was employed as a Janitor at the University of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Mae Hawkins, his special Uncle Isiah Jones (Uncle Buddy), and his special Aunt Rosie Lee Jones (Dea).

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: son: Rashad Hawkins; sister: Dorothy Graham; nephew: Kwayu Graham; niece: Tameka Graham; great nieces: Kayelon Graham, Kalonji Graham, and Brianna Booker; great-nephews: Shirod Graham, Jordan Graham, Jeremiah Graham, and Derion Graham; special cousins: Pearley Atwater, Dorothy Jones, Freddie G. Jones, Margaret Jones, and Geraldine (Mike) Stewart; special friends: Greg Dunnorm, David Nix; special cousin,Kevin Steen; special friend and Caregiver: Gloria Burum; Caregivers: Heather Witt, Danny Witt, Hand N Hand;  and a  host of family and friends too numerous to name.
