James Henry Hawkins Jr., affectionately known as Jimmy to his loved ones, and Hawk to close friends was called home by the Lord on August 7, 2023.
James Henry Hawkins Jr. was born on September 20, 1933, to the late James Henry Hawkins Sr. and Eva Elizabeth Cain in Russellville Tennessee. Jimmy spent his 89 years in loving service to his family, his country, and his God.
He was veteran of U.S. Armed Forces for six years, after leaving the Army obtained his high diploma, and was employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he worked in the Biology Division for 40 years. James enjoyed the love and laughter of family and cherished sharing family history at big gatherings. His devotion to his family past, present, and future was unwavering.
In his service to the Lord, he was a faithful member of the Scarboro Church of Christ, Park City Church of Christ, and McDonald Drive Church of Christ. His faith was a beacon that guided him through life's ups and downs, and he found comfort and peace in his spiritual journey. Jimmy's faith was an inspiration to those around him, and his dedication to his church was a testament to his faith.
James married Anna Mae Hamilton and to that union they were blessed with two daughters Audrey and Shawn.
He was preceded in death by wife Anna Mae, stepdaughter Magnolia Robinson, parents James and Eva, sister Mary Sue Steele, sister Roberta Kirkpatrick, nephew Brian Hawkins.
He is survived by his children Audrey (Thom) Jackson of Knoxville, Shawn Canty of Knoxville, stepdaughter Delores Robinson of New York. His siblings and spouses: Shirley Lawerence (Ike) of Detroit, Eugene Hawkins (Mary), Ella DuBose, Carol (Ron) Barnette of Oak Ridge, and Raymond (Anna) Hawkins of Charlotte.
Grandchildren: Shanta, Andre, Candice, Dominic, Mitchell, Windell, Solonzo, Jamie, great grandchildren, Daran, Christian, Trent, Alisson and Nicholas along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family.
