James Milton Womble Obituary

James M. Womble entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Island Home Park Health Care and Rehab, under the compassionate care of University of Tennessee Hospice–Knoxville. He was born on November 20, 1946, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Robert L. Womble and Naomi S. Womble.


James graduated from Austin High School in 1963. He worked faithfully throughout his life as a delivery driver and later at Stokes Lights & Electric and the Hyatt House. He was known for his steady presence, quiet strength, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.


He is preceded in death by his parents; Robert L. Womble and Naomi S. Womble; Aunt Ann Horton (Aunt Lizzie); daughter Angela R. Womble-Holmes; brother Lawrence Womble; sister Betty Ann Benton; nephew Jeffery Wilkerson; and cousins Paul Holt, Artis Hiwatha (Barbara) Holt, William Holt, Arthur Holt, David (Charlotte) Holt, Revea Holt, and Anthony Martin.


He leaves to cherish his memory: Son James (Betsy) Womble Jr.; daughter Rochelle Womble; sisters America (Melvin) Miller; and Janice (Maurice) Donaldson.
Grandchildren Christine Stanton, Maurice Holmes, Geisha Boldin, Whitlee Womble, Favin Womble, and Jayda Womble.
He is also lovingly remembered by cousins Alice (Alonzo) Amos, Phyllis McDermott, and Ronnie Holt; nephews Howard (Tameka) Smith Jr. and Justin Womble; nieces Felicia (Johnny) Morelan, Melissa (Jeffrey) Wilkerson, Christian N. Benton, Millicent M. Jackson, Carigiouse (James) Crippen, Iesha (Larry) Sawyer, and Lacresha (Steven) Palmer; along with many great‑grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, and extended family and friends who deeply loved him.
