Jeryl M. Mapp was born November 17, 1959 in Knoxville, TN to the late Dorothy M. Mason and William Locke Holland, and step-son of William L. Mason. He slept away peacefully, December 1,2024, at his sister’s home in Nashville, TN surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Mason, William Locke Holland, Sister, Tillia Mapp; Grandparents Robert H. Mapp Jr., Gertrude Mapp, Locke Holland, and Ruby Holland; Great Grand Father, Robert H. Mapp, Sr.
Jeryl began his education at Maynard Elementary School, then moved to east Knoxville with his mother and continued his education at Vine Junior High School and graduated from Austin East High School in 1978. He was able to attend his 46 Year Class Reunion in August, where he danced to his favorite tune “Blow the Whistle”. Jeryl had a few signature sayings “What’s Up”, “ You already know”, and “It’s hell now that the Rabbit got the Gun”.
Jeryl’s child-hood Christian experience was at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church; where he accepted Christ at an early age. Jeryl grew up in Mechanicsville; where he was raised in a Godly home by his grandparents Robert H. Mapp, Jr and Gertrude Mapp (the task master) along with his sisters Sharon and Natasha.
Jeryl was an accomplished patient care specialists at Lakeshore Mental Health Facility for over 20 years. He was well like by the patients and the staff. The Nurses would ask him on numerous occasions to work a double because Jeryl was able to handle any task dealing with the patients.
Jeryl and his Companion later moved to Nashville TN and he became a dedicated route Truck Driver for Prime Inc for 15 years. At Prime Inc in 2022, Jeryl was presented with the outstanding performance award for being a professional driver with 1,000,000 miles accident free. He loved his job and due to his illness had to retire in October. His Supervisor, Darren, spoke highly of Jeryl’s dedication and work ethics. He loved people, his family, and having fun. He was always a jokester and very out-going. He always had a radiant smile and made friends easily. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help family, friends, and others.
Jeryl leaves to cherish his memory: Step Father, William L. Mason; Daughter, Jeressa M. Mapp, Grandson, Chance C. Andrson; Step daughter, Destiny Clark: Sisters, Sharon Mapp Humphrey (Dwight), Natasha Oneal Caldwell, Dedicated Companion, Jervece Henley; Devoted Aunt, Paula Smith; Uncle, Rudy Holland; many step brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Second Moma: Dora Mae Bowden; Special Family Friend, Troy Anderson; Best Friends: Patty Thomas, Allen Bowden, and Kevin Goss.
