Jessie Hardaway Obituary

Ms. Jessie M. Porter Hardaway, age 86, a resident of Oak Ridge, TN for 54 years, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge, TN. She was born September 13, 1934 in Gaston, AL to the late Estella and Roy Porter, Sr. She attended True Light Missionary Baptist Church where Darris Waters is pastor, until her health failed her. Her hobbies included gardening, reading the Bible and spending time with friends and family. She also loved cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Hardaway, Sr.; son, Eddie, Jr.; five brothers, Roy, Jr., Eugene, Alvin, Calvin and Garfield Porter; two sisters, Carrie Ruggs and Elmira Davenport; brother-in-law, Roosevelt Ruggs and sisters-in-law, Bethina and Beatrice Porter.

She leaves to cherish her memory: loving daughters, Eugenia Harrison and Charlene Hardaway; loving sons, Larry and David Hopson, Jackie Porter; grandchildren, Ken, Fredrick and Travis Porter, Karon Knaff, DeBriael Hall, Chelsea Stewart, Irica Williams, Kelly and Mandrell Troope, Adrian and Erica Porter, Terrance and Latosha Cooke; several great grandchildren; brothers, Leon (Lola) of Georgia and Donald Porter of Oak Ridge, TN; sisters-in-law, Laura Woods, Annie Clyde, Mary Porter, Jessie and Alma; brotherin-law, Glenn Hardaway; special close friends, Willie Wade and Christy Eller; a host of nephews, nieces and friends too numerous to include.

Saturday, April 3, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 3229 George Light Road, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. A graveside service will take place at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Elder Darris Waters as the eulogist. A white dove release will conclude the service. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order No. 17 (COVID-19). Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough. Service will be live-streamed at Facebook.com/ Pug Fuller Video.
