Jobie Daniel Smith Obituary

On February 12, 1934, in Morrilton, Arkansas, Leslie and Flora Smith welcomed a baby boy into their family and named him Jobie Daniel Smith.

While Jobie was still young, the family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where he completed his elementary and secondary education. In 1958, he answered the call to serve his country, embarking on a military career that spanned over 20 years. During his service, Jobie completed multiple overseas tours across Europe and Asia, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He concluded his distinguished military service with the 101st Airborne Division (the Screaming Eagles) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

In December of 1958, Jobie met the love of his life, Roberta. They were married on July 3, 1959, beginning a partnership that would last 66 years. Together, they were blessed with six children, five daughters and one son, building their family and memories primarily in Clarksville, Tennessee.

From a young age, Jobie held a passion for cars, which he expressed through fixing, restoring, and racing them. His dedication and skill earned him multiple drag racing trophies over the years. Another source of joy for him was celebrating his family’s accomplishments—he loved collecting and displaying photographs of his children and grandchildren, proud of every milestone they achieved.

A devoted member of the predominantly African American community of Burchwood Estates, Jobie was known as a helping hand and a steady presence. Whether working in his shop or relaxing on the front porch, he always took time to greet neighbors and watch the children play up and down the street. He also pursued higher education, taking business classes at Austin Peay State University.

A student of the Gospel and a true believer in Christ, Jobie lived his faith with sincerity and purpose. On June 30, 2025, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Flora Smith; his brother, Amos; three beloved daughters, Debra, Rita, and Yvette; three grandchildren, LaDonna, Nathan, and Angie; and one great-grandchild, Magic.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Roberta Lindsey Smith; his son, Joel (Katrina) Smith of Knoxville, TN; his daughters, Brenda (James) Childs of Monroe, OH, and Midori (Alan) Hendrix of Groveport, OH; four sisters-in-law; A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
