Katherine Carpenter was born April 13, 1932, to B.C. and Willie Mae Carpenter in Greenville, SC. She moved to Oak Ridge at an early age. She was known to everyone as “Ms. Kitty.” On Saturdays, she enjoyed riding around the city in her white Pinto “Casper.” Katherine enjoyed skating, dancing, working puzzles and listening to gospel music. She was an avid sports fan too. Ms. Kitty was a nurturer at heart. She loved to cook and care for the elderly.
She was preceded in death by her sons, William Earl Carpenter and Edward Eugene Carpenter; parents; sisters, Louise Hoskey, Christine Marant and Elizabeth Young and brother, Clarence Carpenter; special friend, Henry Moore.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Marvel Lynette Carpenter; son, Tyrone Carpenter; grandchildren, Laurele Carpenter, Adara Carpenter and Shalaya Carpenter of Berea, KY; daughter-in-law, Deborah Kay Carpenter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren too numerous to name.
Thursday, July 22, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 3229 George Light Road, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. A service to follow for immediate family and close friends. Elder Darris Waters is the eulogist.
