Lilia Mae Dumas Obituary

Lilia Mae Dumas of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born in Valdosta, GA, to the late Elijah Freeman, Sr., and Eddie Bell Freeman, she was a beloved member of Freedom Fellowship Christian Church, where she not only worshiped but also served as a Trustee on the Board, was active in the Seasoned Saints Ministry, and served on the usher board.

Lilia graduated from Rule High School in 1969, where she excelled as a standout athlete, particularly in basketball and volleyball. Her career spanned various industries, including Standard Knitting Mill, Levi Strauss & Co., Southeast Service, and a 20-year tenure at the Tennessee Valley Authority. Known for her generosity and kindness, she inspired and touched many lives. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, she helped more people gain employment than can be counted.

Lilia is survived by her loving children:  Josette Dobbins of Midland, TX; Michelle (Ray) Liggins of Smyrna, TN; and Ashley (Jermon) Bishop of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by six grandchildren:  Aron Dobbins, Jazmin Dobbins, Savanna Liggins, Jada Bishop, Jermon Bishop Jr., and Jayce Bishop; two great-grandchildren: Zayvien Dobbins and Eliose Dobbins; two siblings:  Elijah Freeman Jr. of Abilene, TX, and Mary Juandoo of Knoxville, TN; and a multitude of family and friends.

Lilia was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah Freeman, Sr. and Eddie Bell Freeman; her sister, Gaynell Freeman; and her sister-in-law, Almeta Freeman.

Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the Haslam-Sansom Ministry Complex-Lonsdale, 1740 Texas Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Freedom Fellowship Christian Church, 4027 Papermill Drive NW, Knoxville, TN 37909. Friends and family are invited to gather at 11:00 AM, with services beginning at 12:00 PM. The burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, 2420 Berry Road, Knoxville, TN 37920.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Freedom Fellowship Christian Church.

Lilia's legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of those who loved her. She brought so much joy and laughter to all who knew her.

Rest in peace, Lilia. We will always carry her memories with us.
