Linda Sawyer Obituary

Linda Joyce Sawyer was born July 23, 1950, to the late William and Wilma Sawyer, slept peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ on Friday, May 27, 2022 at West Hill Hospice Facility.

Linda was a loving sister, aunt, and friend that would help anyone who needed her assistance. She was baptized at an early age by Reverend H.J Bailey at Payne Avenue Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church Under Reverend M.J. Robinson, and then to New Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, renamed Fern Street Missionary Baptist Church. There she remained a faithful member under Pastor Gregory E. Sawyer, until her failing health.

Linda enjoyed cooking and watching her favorite TV program, Walker, Texas Ranger. She was always present at church when the doors were opened and participated in several ministries through out the church. She especially loved working with the youth in many capacities, including Sunshine Band Leader, Sunday School teacher, and vacation bible school teacher. She sung in the choir, faithfully paid her tithes & offering, was always present for Wednesday night services, and unselfishly supported her Pastor. Linda knew, without a shadow of a doubt, she loved the Lord and was a child of the Most High Almighty King.

She was preceded in death by parents William and Wilma Sawyer; sister, Brenda Jean Lundy; and brother, William “Pete” Sawyer Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories sisters, Patricia Sawyer, Wilma “Peaches” Buford; brother, Pastor Gregory E. (Titonia) Sawyer, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends, and her church family. Devoted friends Glenn “lefty” Miller, Margaret Bailey, Reba Drew, and Cathy Worthy.

Friday, June 3, 2022, the family will receive friends from  5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at Fern Street Missionary Baptist Church, 121 Fern Street, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings required.
