Lloyd Jones, Jr Obituary

Elder Lloyd Charles Jones Jr was born March 9, 1950 to the union of the late Lloyd C. Jones Sr and Julia Jones.  He was granted eternal rest on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge, TN.


He attended Scarboro Elementary, Robertsville Jr. High and is a 1968 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.


Having confessed Christ as his personal savior, he was baptized into the family of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late C. C. Fuller.  As a member of Mt. Zion, he sang in the Male Chorus and was called to preach the gospel under the pastorate of the late Elder D. J. Ward.  Elder Jones' first sermon "Sin Is Destructive" text taken from Genesis 3:4 and Genesis 6:5-7.  He preached this sermon on Sunday, August 21, 1977.  He was ordained as an Elder on Sunday, June 3, 1984.  He went on to graduate from the American Baptist College. He served as an associate minister at Mt. Zion Baptist church for 20 years. 

Elder Jones became the Pastor of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TN in October of 2000 and served faithfully as Pastor until his call to glory. He also worked for over 20 years at the K-25 Plant, Y-12 Plant, and retired from SAIC in Oak Ridge, TN.
Music was an integral part of Elder Jones’ life. In high school he sang with the Soul Sanction Band. They won the Battle of the Bands and a trip to Atlantic City, NJ. He shared his gift whenever possible and sometimes sang with the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Choir.
Along with his parents, Elder Jones was preceded in death by wife Willie “Lois” Jones, sons Jerome and Victor Threat, sister Carolyn Daniel and nephew Freddie Daniel.

Elder Jones was blessed with a kind, gentle and loving spirit and he was the prayer warrior for the family and so many others.  He took great pleasure in visiting and praying with the sick and shut-in. On Thursday, November 19, 2020, he taught bible study from the scripture Hebrews 12:1-2.  The subject of the text was Let Us Lay Aside Every Weight and Sin that so easily Beset Us.  After teaching this text he ended with prayer and the song:  It is Well with My Soul.

He leaves to mourn his passing: daughter, Carmen Jones of Charlotte, NC; sons, Lloyd C. Jones III (Christy), Clarence Threat (Angela) and Troy Threat; sisters, Brenda Jones of Oak Ridge, TN and Julia Rupert (David) of Powell, TN; grandchildren, Nicolas Jones (Kayla) of Japan, Trey Jones (Chrissy), Kyler Jones (Keyarian), Ariana Jones, Tanisha Threat, Treasure Threat, Clarence Threat Jr and Maurice McKinney, all of Oak Ridge, TN; aunt, Ruth Shannon of Oak Ridge, TN; brother in law, Benjamin Dowdell of Virginia; nieces and nephews, Dutchess Jones of Knoxville, TN, Dionne Harper (Peter) of Oak Ridge, TN, Wesley Newson (Nicole), Candace Newson, all of Nashville, TN, Lisa (Tony) Moss of Tampa, FL, and Betina Dowdell of New York, NY; a host of great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and his Mt. Bethel family who loved and cared for him during his pastorate.


Due to unforeseen circumstances, the service has been postponed and will be announced at a later date.  


Saturday, December 5, 2020, a committal will convene for the immediate family at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.  Social distancing and face masks are required. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor's Executive Order #17 (COVID-19).  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
