MariLyn Elisabeth Langston affectionately known as Dutchess, a beacon of kindness and passionate love, completed her earthly journey on April 27, 2024. Born on August 2, 1957, in Knoxville, TN, MariLyn graced this world with her presence for sixty-six years. She was a graduate of Austin East High School class of 1975. She was a formal employee of ORNL for 39 years as an expert in IT technology and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

With deep roots in Knoxville, Dutchess was a graduate of Draughons Junior Colleger and Roane State Community College, where she earned her Master's degree in Computer Science. Her academic achievements paved the way for a successful career, during which she inspired many with her dedication and innovation in the field of technology. MariLyn's professional life was marked by the same passion she poured into every aspect of her life.

MariLyn is preceded in death by: mother, Mary L Barger; aunt, Helen Andrews; sisters, Vivian Smith, and Arnetta Tate; nephews, MacKenzie and Ronald Gilmore.

The love MariLyn held for her family was immeasurable. She leaves behind a daughter, Kiera Langston, the apple of her eye, who along with her two cherished grandchildren, Kasiya and Kaison Langston, were the joy of her life. Marilyn's nurturing spirit extended to her sister, Shelia Smith, and brothers, Kenneth and William Barger; nieces, Felisha (George) Holloway, Cynthia Davis, Tyeneshia Barger, TesLyn Gilmore, Mariah (Simeon) Glasper, and Alexis Barger; nephews, Charles Barger, Samuel and Jamar Gilmore, and Demetrius Barger-Richardson; best friend and sister Lois (Michael) Brown; very devoted friend Robert Crawford and Patty Reno; New Salem Baptist Church Family;  The Austin-East Class of 1975; and a host of great nieces, nephews and other family and friends too many to name including The Langston Family.
 

MariLyn's enthusiasm for the Tennessee Volunteers was infectious. Whether it was football season or basketball season, she could be found cheering on her team with vigor and loyalty that rivaled the players themselves. Her love for sports was just one aspect of her love for life. Beyond the stadium cheers, MariLyn was an avid traveler. Her adventures took her to places far and wide, allowing her to embrace diverse cultures, meet new friends, and explore the beauty of the globe. These travels only deepened her appreciation for the world and its people, a sentiment she carried with her in her everyday interactions.

Those who knew MariLyn would describe her as loving, passionate, and kind—three words that encapsulated the essence of her being. She approached life with a heart full of compassion, her actions guided by a profound empathy that touched all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

MariLyn's passing was in her native Knoxville, surrounded by the hills that raised her, the community that loved her, and the family that meant everything to her. Her light shone brightly during her time with us, and it will continue to shine in the memories she leaves behind.

As we say goodbye to MariLyn Elisabeth Langston, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was. Her spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering support and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed. Though she has left this world, her legacy will endure in the hearts of those she impacted.

Marilyn's life will be commemorated in a service that reflects the profound joy she brought to those around her. As we gather to honor her memory, we will share the stories that make us smile, the moments that bring us comfort, and the love that she cultivated that will forever be a part of us.

We bid farewell to Marilyn, not with sorrow, but with the gratitude of having been graced by her extraordinary presence. She was a gift to us all, and while she may have departed from this life, the love she shared remains eternal.
