Mary Lane

Mary Smith Lane, 92, of Knoxville, passed away on April 20, 2022, after a lengthy illness. 

She was a faithful member and mother of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the usher board. She worked for Senior Citizen for over 40 years. She loved attending church and listening to gospel music. 

Mary Smith, known as “Granny,” enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Stella Taylor; daughters, Betty McClendon, Mary Alice Taylor, Doris Smith; sisters, Francis Taylor, Margaret Taylor; brothers, Robert Taylor and Carl (Carlin) Taylor and sister-in-law, Valerie Smith. 

Survived by her devoted daughters. Emma Taylor, Elaine (Robert) Byrd, Pearl Page, Debra (Michael) Haynes, Teresa Buckner;devoted Sons, Tyrone Smith, Elder (Terry) Smith III sister, Nella Ruth Taylor. Sixty-six grandchildren, one hundred ten great-grandchildren, twenty four great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends including the Wilson family that are too numerous to name. 

Saturday, April 30, 2022, the family will recieve friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Homegoing Celecbration to follow at New Friendship Baptist Church, 1933 Texas Ave, Knoxville, TN. Reverend Dr. Joseph B. Smith, officiating.Social distancing and face coverings required.  Interment at New Gray Cemetery, 2724 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN, where a white dove release will conclude the service.
