Mary Threat

Mary Dowdell Threat, age 93, of Oak Ridge, TN, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. She was born to the late Robert B and Irene Senderson Dowdell, Auburn, Alabama.

Preceding her in death, husband Willie Threat; daughter, Mattie Lue Threat; sisters, Martha Golden, her loving twin, Mattie Dowdell, and Dorothy Philpot; brothers, Johnnie Lee, Robert, George, Linsey, Leamon, John Henry, and Arthur Dowdell.

Sister Mary lived a very active life, surrounded by dedicated family and friends who loved her dearly. She was a faithful founding member of Oak Valley Baptist Church, uniting under the leadership of the founder, the late Rev. Alonzo Sims. Sister Mary was a dedicated servant in many ministries of the church family. She was the church clerk, served on the hospitality (Golden Girls) committee, sang with the sanctuary choir, an active member of the mission’s ministry, and was an active member of the Golden Age Sunday School Class.
Mary devoted much time and service to the order of Eastern Star, Atomic Chapter #13. In 2012 she received a 50-year plaque for her dedication and support from the Excelsior Grand Chapter. She also received a plaque from OES-TN-PHA in appreciation for 50 plus years of service as an Honored Grand District Deputy for Excelsior Grand Chapter O.E.S.
Mary was a beautician for many years and was blessed to have retired from Martin Marietta.

She leaves to cherish her memories and “Homegoing” a devoted grandson, Anthawn Deshawn Threat; a Loving and caring sister, Willie Pearl Faison; 2 very special nephews, Edward Threat of California and Ben Dowdell of Virginia; a very special niece, Beverly Diane Bolton of Florida. A host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special friends, Dorothy Graham, Ernestine Sloan, Linda Williams, and her Oak Valley Church Family. 

Wednesday, August 17, 2022, family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at Oak Valley Baptist Church, 194 Hampton Road, Oak Ridge, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. The funeral service will follow at noon, with Pastor Derrick Hammond as the eulogist. Interment at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, 1501 Bethel Valley, Oak Ridge, TN, where a white dove release will conclude the service. Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
