Mary Woods

June 5, 1945 ~ February 6, 2021 (age 75)

Obituary

Mary Kathryn Woods, at the blessed age of 75, was called home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her sons: Chancel Jr. and Lincoln Woods; her parents, Melvin and Ruth Thompson; sisters: Corrine Anderson, Evelyn Jean Love, Elizabeth McClellon and Zelma Brown; and brothers: Clyde Wesley Thompson, Robert J. Thompson, Curtis L. Thompson, William M. Thompson, Alonzo Thompson and Fred Gaston Jr.

Mary leaves behind to treasure her memories, her loving husband of 55 years, Chancel Woods; her daughter, Aretha (Floyd) Davis of Cleveland; her grandchildren: Martez Barber and Aneisha Barber, both of Cleveland, Matrika Saintaudes of Chattanooga, and Matasha Davis and Reginald Carruth of Murfreesboro; great-granddaughter, Jaleesa Saintaudes of Chattanooga; great-grandson, the ‘little prince’, Amir Clay, of Clevelan; nephew, Kevin Bradford of Baltimore, Md.; her sister, Estella (Howard) Woods of Georgetown; her brother, Franklin Gaston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Booker-T and Elizabeth Woods of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Gertrude Thompson of Cleveland; her friend, Faye Thompson; and her St. Elmo Church Family.

She attended St. Elmo Elementary School and College Hill High School. She loved sharing her storytelling abilities of funny, interesting and great stories. She enjoyed action and western movies. She would get to know anyone who came to her home, through her doors by getting past their surface and getting to know the real you.

Mary had a T&T personality (tough and tender); she was tough whereas, if she had something on her mind, she would ask you or tell you about yourself and tender, that whatever you said to her she would encourage you and love you.

Mary loved her jewelry, clothes, flowers, hats, elephants and great smelling perfume.

She had some cute sayings, like "you look like a Malten Kitten," if she thought you were dressed nice, or "don’t pick up any wooden nickels," if you are getting ready to travel. She also would raise her hand if she was talking and you seem to be interrupting her, she would say “I’m talking.”

Most of all, Mary was a woman of faith. She loved the Lord, prayed for her family all the time and would let you know "I’m praying for you every night." We will miss her tough and tender love, her storytelling, her youthful personality and knowing that we had someone who cared and was praying for us.

A walk-through viewing will be Sunday,  from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair Street S.E., Cleveland, TN.

Family visitation will be Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, from 1 to 2 p.m. service time, for family only, at St. Elmo United Methodist Church, 447 Francisco Road N.W., Georgetown. Pastor Floyd Davis will be the eulogist. Interment will follow at the Woods Cemetery.
