Renita Brown Obituary

Renita "Nita" Japhet Brown, a beacon of love and compassion, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Knoxville, TN, on April 4, 2024. Nita was born  on June 13, 1968. Nita's vibrant spirit was a gift to all who knew her. She was a cherished resident of Knoxville throughout her life, and her absence will be felt deeply within the community.

Renita was preceded in death by her father, Paul Carter; grandparents, Robert and  Lucille Bell, Leslie and Virginia Carter.

Her legacy will be carried on by her loving children: Wachira (Tiana) Whiteside, Robert (Britny) Brown and Anqunita Brown(Shun) and mother, Betty B. Reed.

She was an adored grandmother to Dushawn, Tremaine, Camille, Zyaire, Ashunti, Ashun, Shun Jr., and Cassaria, who brought immense joy to her life.

Renita's memory will be treasured by her siblings, Maurice Brown and Julias Carter; sisters/cousins; Sharon Colquitt Glass and April Hardin; aunt, Saundra B. Johnson; uncle, Ernest (Linda) Comer.. She was a devoted aunt to Deshon and Antonio, and she held a special place in her heart for her great-niece Janessa and great-nephews Pierre and Teion. Renita's family extended beyond blood relations, encompassing a host of loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who were like family to her.

Nita was a proud graduate of Austin East High School, where she cultivated her love for education and the joy of learning. Her interests were simple yet profound, as she found happiness in listening to music and surrounding herself with family and friends. Renita's presence was a source of comfort and warmth, and her home was often filled with laughter, storytelling, and the sounds of her favorite tunes.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Renita would describe her as loving, passionate, and thoughtful. She approached every person and situation with an open heart, and her kindness left an indelible mark on the world. Her passion was evident in everything she did, from the way she cared for her family to her involvement in the community, always striving to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Renita lived her life by the words of Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Her ability to make others feel loved and valued was her greatest gift, and it is this sentiment that will resonate with those she has left behind.

As we bid farewell to Renita Japhet Brown, we celebrate a life lived with intention and grace.
