Dr. Michel Sean Edgar Caldwell heard his name called from high, so he left his earthly body and transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, February 14, 2022. Michel was born March 27, 1961 in Orleans, France. He is the third six children born to the marital union of the late Jack H Caldwell Sr and the late Shirley Beverly Scruggs Caldwell
Michel S.E. Caldwell attended Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska and graduated from the University of Alaska, Anchorage with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1987. He received a Master of Divinity Degree graduating with honors from the Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, Georgia. He has taken courses in pursuit of his Doctor of Divinity degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Reverend Caldwell received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree during the commencement service of New Freedom Bible College in Bellevue, Illinois in 2004.
Dr. Michel Caldwell preached his first trial sermon at age 17 in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Corinthian Baptist Church. Licensed by Rev. W. McGraw at Greater Olivet Baptist Church, Los Angeles, California in 1980, he was ordained in 1987 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Anchorage, Alaska by Dr. Alonzo B. Patterson, Jr. In 1989 he became the pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cartersville, Georgia. He was the former pastor of Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Delta Junction, Alaska; Young Life Staff Director, Administrative Assistant and Youth Pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church; Class Coordinator of Billy Graham Crusade; Board of Directors of the Georgia Department of Human Resources, and Tallatoona Inc., and a member of Georgia General Missionary Baptist Convention.
Dr. Michel Caldwell has served as Adjunct Professor of Religion at Tusculom College—Graduate Studies and Director of Campus Ministries and Adjunct Professor of New and Old Testament Studies at Knoxville College.
He is the former President of the Knoxville Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance 2003-2005; member of CAC Community Leadership Class of 2005-2006 and vice president of the Knoxville District Congress of Christian Education.
Dr. Michel S.E. Caldwell was recently elected the Vice President of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Education Convention Inc.
Dr. Michel S.E. Caldwell was called to Rogers Memorial Baptist Church on August 15, 1994. He has been the pastor there for the past 28 years up until his death.
Michel is survived by his only son, Michael Christopher Caldwell; siblings, Jaqueline Roundtree (Alexandria, VA), Wanda E. Wilson (David) of Anchorage Alaska; Jack H. Caldwell Jr. (Amber) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Tracey S. Caldwell of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Kenneth C. Caldwell ( Stacy) of Bothell, Washington; Jacelyn T. Bradford (Calvin) of Chester, VA, Tarajina C. Mayfield (Maceo) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; nephews, Sean D. Wilson (Ellie) of Anchorage, Alaska; Quest T. Caldwell of Spartanburg, South Carolina; nieces, Mary Roundtree (Michael), of Alexandria, Virginia, Jordyn Bradford Cheeks ( Stephen), of Richmond, Virginia, Jaela Bradford of Chester, Virginia, Caliegh Bradford of Chester, Virginia; great nephews, Jaxon Cheeks, of Chester, Virginia, and Israel Caldwell of Spartanburg, South Carolina and a great niece, Jaqueline Roundtree of Alexandria, Virginia.
Tuesday, February 22, 2022, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church, 520 College Street, Knoxville, TN 37921 Social distancing and face coverings required. A Celebration of Life will follow. A white dove release will conclude the service. Flowers may be delivered to the church prior to the walkthrough.
