Rickey Wayne Turner was born July 13, 1952, the second son of four children born to Frankie Sr. and Virginia Turner. Rickey grew up in East Knoxville and was educated at Mountain View Elementary, Vine Junior High and graduated from Austin East High School, Class of 1970.
A Sheet Metal worker for over 41 years, Rickey traveled many places and enjoyed every moment. He always said, “I’ll be a Sheet Metal worker ‘til the day I die!” He simply enjoyed life. Puzzles were his favorite: 500 to 1000 pieces to be exact, Sudoku and crosswords. He was a “sports of any kind” fan and a serious Nascar Racing fanatic. Not only was he a spectator of sports; he also played basketball, softball and ran track. Journalism and meteorology could have been his majors because he was always up to date with the happenings in the world.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory: Brenda Turner; children, Travis Sr., and Takara Turner; brothers, Melvin Leroy Turner, Frankie Jr. (Stephanie) Turner and Elston Howard (Louise) Turner; devoted and loving grandchildren, Christopher Turner, Jayla Patton, Trinity Turner and Travis Turner, Jr.; beloved great granddaughter, Karter Grey Turner; sisters-in-law, Vivian (Harmon) Brown, Darlene Allen, Vanessa Ferrell and Audrey Anderson; brother-in-law, Bruce (Frankie) Anderson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
