Ronald Smith Obituary


Ronald Lee Smith, affectionately known as “Ronnie”, was the fifth child born to the late Frank and Lillie Mae Smith on June 5, 1952 in Knoxville, TN.  In his younger years, Ronnie was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Ronnie departed this life on Friday, December 25, 2020.

Ronnie was a 1970 graduate of Austin East High School where he was a stellar athlete in football and basketball.  He was known and loved by many for his charming personality and “SMOOTH” way with words.  He made it a point to live his life to the fullest.

Preceded in death by father, Frank Eugene Smith; mother, Lillie Mae Smith; sister, Caroline Delores Smith; brothers, Victor Eugene Smith and Frank Edward Smith Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory: children, Dwayne Troutman (Ayanna) of Knoxville, TN, Erika Johnson (Jay) of Knoxville, TN and Marlon Patterson (Tunisia) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Dwayne Troutman Jr., Ayanna Troutman, Summer Hopkins, Timothy Ramsey, all of Knoxville, TN, Richard Patterson, Brian Foard, Jada Franklin of Atlanta, GA; a very loving and devoted sister, Beverly Bonds; devoted and loving niece, Venis Hyatt (Jason); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.


Saturday, January 9, 2021, a public walkthrough from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E Zion Church, 3800 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN.  Social distancing and face coverings are required.  A graveside service will follow at New Gray Cemetery, 2724 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN, where a white dove release will conclude the service.  During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order No. 17 (COVID-19). Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough.
